Aluan Arguelles
Aluan Argüelles was born in 1982 in Havana, Cuba. He holds a BFA degree by Fine Art
Department, Higher Institute of Art in CUBA; he also studied at the RoyalUniversity College of Fine Art in Stockholm, as an exchange program scholarship awarded by (Linnaeus-Palme). A 2008 he also won a Special Student ArtProgram Royal University College of Fine Art in Stockholm. 2009, he has been an artist resident at the Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT. Aluan is a conceptual artist with a strong background in art history, and he work in several different media, including painting, video and installations. Several of the themes that recur in his work are specific to life in Cuba: living on a small an utopian island, a country in which the political and economic realities are unique and challenging, where water is everywhere, and emigration is a constant. He also explore themes that are reflective of global concerns: much of my work centers on mass media, including the blurred boundaries between fiction and reality, and he pervasive influence of mass media on contemporary culture.
