Ariel Churnin
Ariel’s art has developed throughout her years of learning, but certain qualities are recurrent: vibrant color, expressive mark-making, a love of physicality, introspectiveness, and spirituality/interest in the sublime. She enjoys working in a variety of mediums, including oil painting, watercolor, collage, sewing and sculpture. Ariel’s art is a way to express, understand and communicate with herself and then to share what she has learned with others. Her current work, for example, is deeply introspective, as it attempts to put on canvas visions from dreams and meditations.
Using spiritual symbols and images from her memory, Ariel pieces together the vision in tangible form for others to see. The nature of painting these elusive images helps Ariel reap deeper meaning from the inner visions, and to become more comfortable with
them. At the same time, Ariel continues to paint and draw from life, with the hopes that one day, she will be able to paint both inner and outer visions with ease and strength.
