Christy Symington

How humans impact on the natural world and the interaction that each has with/on the other underlies my 3 areas of interest: Figures & Portraits, Tigers and Abstract sculpture and drawings.

The hideous carnage of man’s greed and deforestation has acutely endangered wild habitats around the world.  Threats to the remaining 3,200 wild tigers of poaching for skins, bones and tiger parts used in traditional Chinese medicines as well as human/tiger land conflicts could cause their extinction in less than 20 years that will also cause an imbalance in the ecosystem.  The tiger has long been revered as the symbol of strength, power and beauty as well as awe and fear.  In the east it represents the greatest earthly power as well as protection over human life.  We have to ACT now to protect the needs of the tiger.  My work hails the tiger’s magnificence and aims to waken others to combat indifference and actively join together to save the tiger.
