A drawing-based multi-media artist, I seek to blur the lines between medium and media, between 2-D and 3-D and to explore the boundaries of drawing as a primary art form. Attracted to the aesthetics of human triumphs and sufferings, I manipulate simple pen and ink drawings through a process of photomechanical enlargements. The final product retains the rawness of the original small drawing within a human-size scale. I am interested in exploring the difference between safety and danger within the opportunities and tragedies of the modern urban environment. In sculpture and architecture, I am investigating simple structures: refugee housing, disaster relief shelters, shanty towns and dune shacks. From within, these structures have the opportunity to be houses and homes. From the outside, there is the opportunity for destruction and decay. Inspired by street art and graffiti, my work is increasingly site-specific and temporary. Stapled or wheat-pasted to a wall, my art (and its subjects and its environments) is not precious.
